Bodies are stupid: not news, still annoying.

So this morning I went for my blood test, which was annoying in that the usual place was closed without notice (there's only ever one person there so I'mma guess they called in sick or something of the sort, presumably? they'd have someone to cover if it was planned??), so I went to the one across the road. Which was fine, no dramas, but I was pretty hungry when I woke up, and the combo of exercise + blood loss before eating meant I felt like shit.

So I came home and ate and ended up sleeping until mid-afternoon even though I'd gone to the trouble of getting up early and putting washing on before I left, siiiigh. Also, still feeling kinda off two meals and more than twelve hours later, which isn't super great (though I'm also tired which doesn't help either).

Still, it got done, and I did do SOME work on the cat run this afternoon, though unfortunately not as much as I wanted. But progress is progress, so there's that!

Also did a bit of work on the coding project, though not as much as I'd hoped there either, not enough brain. Plus I need to get to bed at a time where I'll actually wake up in the morning, 'cause Mama and me are going on a field trip tomorrow! :3 :3 :3

I've got no frickin' idea. Azy, who knows way more about maths than me, also doesn't know. Possibly the answer is on wiki or something but it's nice to just noodle about a mystery for a while, too. Gives your thinkmeats some exercise.

Anyway, today I did things! ( Shopping, cat run maintenance, tidying, project )

Anyway now I should REALLY be going to bed whoops. >>;; Gonna try and remember to do my blood test in the morning, forgot to do it last week. Whoops!

Chocolate Day!!!!

I would like to say I did nothing but eat chocolate and laze around, today. Unfortunately, that would be a lie.

I also cleaned the chook coop.

But I did extremely little other than eat chocolate and read fic, and it was very nice! :3 :3 :3

Tomorrow I'mma attempt to go worship at the feet of Saint Mark Downs after I get up, and then Mama and I are planning on rejigging the cat run. It uh. It really needs it! It's falling apart a bit, and also we need to move some of it, they've kinda dug up all the grass etc., that area needs some time to heal. XD;;; So hopefully it'll go okay! The cats will be Most Upset when they lose access to the run, and it'll just get worse if it takes multiple days to fix...

the day is as dark as the night is long

I am so. fucking. knackered.

Besides working five days/long shifts across last weekend into this week, I have had four migraines in the space of a week (some of which while I was at work!), and as a result, I feel like an abandoned lump of plasticine. And my wrist hurts, my right shoulder hurts, and I am so tired, y'all.

I'm just going to chill with the cat today, as it is seven years since she came to live with me! \o/ and I'm going to draw wonky hex maps by tracing a quilting template. I was going to fiddle around photocopying them to make the hexes smaller, but I don't know if I have the energy for that. So I won't.

I'm also going to eat Easter eggs, as it is appropriate, and I somehow have three (a very good problem to have), but I only bought one myself. (One of the others was from the store manager, the remaining one from my line manager).

Also also: I started using Finch on my phone, as my friend Chris has been using it for the past year and has found it useful for self-care. So I thought I'd try it out. Which is a long-winded way of saying if anyone wants to be friends on there, hit me up and I'll send you my friend code :D (also if you want to add me on Pikmin Bloom, let me know, as I am still playing that somehow).

(and my earplugs did turn up on the day of my previous post - not that long after I'd hit post, as it happens, so that was nice. They are taking some getting used to, but at least they're staying in my ears).

it takes time

“Pish posh! Of course you will! You’ll find that one special person like everyone else! Like us!”

As well-intentioned as these statements can be (and I’ve addressed things like that in prior writing on this blog), I’m going to shove those to the side right now because this is about me and the other aces like me. Because this isn’t about assuming the positive: it’s about how we’re allowed to grieve our missed milestones, or at least the fact they might come on a different timeline.

This really resonated with me. There was a time in my early 20s where I wanted a significant other. Or at least, the idea of having a significant other was really attractive. (Even now I'm not sure which one appeals to me; I feel like they're different things.) I remember sometimes crying myself to sleep because I was scared that I'd end up staying single forever and dying alone.

These days ... it's not accurate to say I couldn't care less, but much like the author, I'm ambivalent. I could stay single forever but maybe I'll meet someone. I could die alone or not. Either way, it's no longer something I spend much time ruminating on.

Whee, project!

I did a BUNCH of work on my project today, and it's going great! :D I need to decide how I want to do the homepage, and top-level navigation is a wip - I've got it as a sidebar, but I'm thinking it might be better as a top bar. I'd have to do something different for mobile view anyway, since sidebars REALLY don't work well on mobile, so a sticky nav bar might be a good idea? Or some kind of dropdown / pull out menu / something.

But I got it to auto-generate template pages (this is in the preprocessing with the json extraction, too, so it's all my own code which is nice), and I got the pagination working, and some extremely ugly basic CSS so there's some kind of layout stuff! (The colours are. Well. You can technically read what's on the screen, but mostly they're selected so that they've all very obvious as to what is what, which is by nature extremely clashing. It's fine, this is how I work, but it's ugly as hell.)

Next major part is figuring out how to get the chat exporter to run and automatically get all the channels I want! May put it on a timer, though hopefully I can get it to check if there have been any new messages since the last time it ran and only update stuff if it needs to. But if nothing else should be able to get it to update all the stuff at a press of a button, as it were. :3 :3 :3

I finished Transient Gundam (who is quite beautiful, but ugh, I did not do well with the clear-blue plastic; it scarred in weird unexpected ways) and want help picking my next build.

...while I also go through All My Paint because I might get to an actual hobby store next weekend where I can theoretically buy more paint/replace any bad paint. It's so much easier to buy paint in person than try to figure out color swatches on a monitor. ^^;;

I still have some other stuff to sort through, and I think a few other repair projects lingering, I am slowly but surely getting the desk and surrounding area sorted out for the first time in far too many years.

To have clean desks...

Drives weekend

It's time for Competitive Drives again in Overwatch, which is an end of season chance to pick up bonus comp points. OW started doing this three seasons ago - at the time, I was very much out of comp as a mode, had not played in it for over three years due to the format being too stressful for me (number matter), and OW2 had removed all end of season comp rewards for rank so equally all incentive. Drives are the effective replacement for end of season rewards, and it's a "you get enough for a weapon skin" across all ranks for everyone if you play a reasonable number of games/win those games so. They successfully lured me back in.

When OW2 came out there was a lot of. How shall we say. Bugs due to account merging across platforms. ( unrelated to comp bugs ) I also experienced a bug where my comp points I had at the time were times'd by ten. So I went from 900 to 9000, or, three gold guns. (Some people got like. 35k points. WILDIN.) I spent those points on Junkerqueen, Lifeweaver, and Juno weapons, and those from the previous drives on Echo and Winston. I have 3k left, which I'm planning to spend on Freja sometime after she launches, and then I'm kind of set on golds for my characters I play often and well.

The first drive I only got 500 comp points as I hadn't done placements and decided like, second to last day I wanted in. Next season I was prepared and placed in everything, partly to satisfy my curiosity of what the game thought my rank now was. It was roughly as expected: Platinum 3 for support, and Platinum 4 for tank and dps. I played a bunch of games to get the 3000 points, won maybe 60%, and went up the tiniest amount to Plat 2. Where I stayed for the last set of drives - placements are biannually - because they had 6k points up for grabs but I didn't have the time due to PEM to do more than the basic 3k, and fortunately I only had to do less than half a dozen games for it as the drive score was generously low.

I don't really dig the galactic weapon designs - it removes all texture from a weapon on console and doesn't look great - but I like them more than the jades, and I have a few maybes, and we do seem to maybe be getting a wolf themed Italian robot lady at the end of the year (I'm in so much danger), so I was just, yeah I'll do drives again. Did my placements. Not in dps because that was a one time deal; I find it extra stressful and I unfortunately care too much about my Ashe winrate. Placed Plat 1 in support, Plat 2 in tank. Waited for drives. Played through the first two thresholds yesterday as tank and then the third and fourth today, in support queue.

tl;dr

(I still need to do the fifth threshold (me and duo tried but went on a losing streak due to some very questionable teammates), but my goal was to hit the fourth one today so being ahead was like, that's fine, I can do less tomorrow and if it doesn't work out I do more on Sunday.)

Unrelated to drives, I am sleeping a bit better (actually a number of hours) and had to give in with trying to contact the GP about food and digestion stuff, but I still have to wait another week for one to examine me before anything gets remotely rolling. Heaven forbid the NHS does anything quickly. I've had a bit of success with upping my omeprazole to see if it was stomach acid/bile making it worse and the answer was "yes" and "it does help and means I can eat and the swelling on the left side of my body went down because my body isn't screaming every time I put anything into it", but I'm not sure if I'm now getting headaches off it from the higher dose... or it's just my body's new pre-period thing. Because that showed up too, which. Explains a lot as to why it got worse, again. As usual all my abdomen issues vanished for a few hours as soon as I started bleeding. Absolutely an angle I'm going to force them on when I ask for allergy tests/blood tests/an ultrasound because I have very strong suspicions as to what the real cause of all of this is.

Buns!!!

Om nom nom hot cross bun day, extremely delicious! :D

Not a whole lot other than that, really. Finished reading Shaman King - the ending is kinda. Uh. Hmm. But I enjoyed it a lot overall! Also there's a new event raid in pokemon, so I did that! Surprisingly straightforward, honestly, which was nice. Also went for a walk with Mama, which was great, the weather was really nice today! :3

Also worked on my project a bit more - finally got stuff to actually show up on the page! :O! So I'm probably something like halfway done, given the amount of issues I had getting that to work! Next is deciding on what actual layout tags I want to be using, so I can format it nicely, then pagination. Functionality first, CSS later, hahaha.

But I don't have enough brain left to work on that any more tonight, so it's time for bed! :3

Package-Racing and other delights...

(three days of unposted updates again, whoops)

Have had a lot of mail coming in. ^^;; A couple of things were KS/pre-orders that just happened to roll in at the same time as 'must buy all the model kits', but now my living room looks like shipping and receiving. ^^;;

(I am watching a lot of small stores get royally fucked by the tariffs, especially nerd stores and other hobby-related ventures. Just, this sucks not only as a customer but just a person who is genuinely glad that being a nerd selling stuff to other nerds exists as a career choice and would like that to continue.)

Maybe over the weekend I can catch up on some hobby posts? At the rate the weather is going (wtf is the weather doing?), cemetery zine is definitely going to be a #0 with previous years ramblings and photos. On the one hand, alas, but on the other this is fine and maybe a good starting point.

Gundam G Generation Eternal finally released! I smashed through what I could and will attempt to figure out how to pace myself shortly. There are some pretty firm resource walls and no real reason to blast through things other than being ready for the upcoming Astray event.

I was gonna start the other sock project I've got planned today, but apparently we don't have any 2.25mm DPN sets. :/ ( Needle-related rambling )

Other than that... work was whatever, and after work I did as I'd planned and checked for hot cross buns. There were none!!!

SK8 the Infinity Extra Part (9/10)

A handful of vignettes about the cast, mostly post-S01 with the exception of Joe and Cherry’s section which is set during their high school days.

Surprising absolutely nobody, my favorite part was the TadaAi vignette, Morning Routine.

For the first part of their vignette, Adam and Tadashi aren’t even in the same room. The screen is split down the middle and shows how they spent most of their day.

( This is too many words for a snippet that’s only around six minutes long. )

The contortions my face went through during this entire segment … I wanted to grab and squeeze and shake something because of how filled to the brim I was with squee. Adam and Tadashi have come so far! I can’t wait for S02 so I can see how much more their relationship has changed.

Now that I’ve gotten my screeching out of the way, other random points about the rest of the OVA:

Miya becoming more comfortable with Reki and Langa, and getting along with Reki’s sisters! Good! (And possible Miya/Koyomi? I’ll accept it.)
Langa carrying Reki piggyback while they look at a rainbow … you cannot give me a straight explanation for this.
Nice to know that Joe and Cherry have been bickering gremlins since high school. I wonder if they go even further back. Pre-schoolers wrestling on the playground? Babies throwing bottles at one another?
Shadow’s the biggest cinnamon roll 😭 I’m sorry Manager-san is already taken. I hope you find someone in S02!

Nom nom hot cross buns :V

There were hot cross buns at work today! \o/ It was excellent, I ate... uh. Four? And brought some home since there were a lot of leftovers. >3

Other than that, work was fine. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible. Got to meet up with A after work though and that was fun! :D Attempted to get pjs again but they were still not in. :(

it's my feeling we'll win in the end

So I finally bit the bullet and bought myself some Loop earplugs. I've been whiffling about it for almost a year now, so I finally went and did it.

Unfortunately, I will probably not be able to use them for the specific reason I bought them (work) as, even though they say they should stay in place, I don't want to risk losing them or be told to take them out by my line manager*. But I can at least have them with me for noisy times that aren't work (e.g. social situations/commutes/shopping, etc).

I do find it kind of hilarious that, for someone who is as noisy as I am**, I am SO noise-sensitive, though (and I swear it's getting worse as I get older).

Anyway, I was hoping they'd arrive today, but apparently they're coming tomorrow, so I guess at least I will have the Easter weekend to get used to them?

*Because I work in an environment with food, there's a lot of restrictions on what we are/aren't allowed to wear. I also can't have my nails painted, because they might chip, and that Irks Me Greatly.

**I was frequently told by both parents to shut up/be quiet when I was a child, and friends when I was younger used to note how loud I was, for example.

I started playing a solo RPG called Over the Mountain. It is not one of the ones from that bundle I bought the other day, merely a free one I found while noodling around on itch some time later.

It is going to take me forever to finish, assuming I want to finish it. I'm unsure at the moment; every time I put it down, I'm like, ehhhhh, but when I pick it up again, I'm kind of interested. I suppose the world building I am having to do is grating on me a little - it should ease off once I've got all the elements in place, though. I'm not saying it's not a good game; I am just having issues with my writing abilities still.

(Though it is making me think about making zines again, which is good! Because I have yet to finish a single one I've thought of - I think this is where I have imposter syndrome, weirdly. I feel like my offerings aren't good enough and yet the entire point of a zine is that it doesn't need to be polished and shiny. It just needs to exist).

Script acquired!

Yeah, went to the doctor for a new script, today. Bleh, every six months!!! And she wants me to do a blood test, so I'll do that probably Thursday? Otherwise next week sometime I guess. (It's a fasting one, otherwise I'd've done it while I was there, heh.)

Other than that... balled up one and a half skeins of yarn - I was going to try a toe-up sock pattern, but it calls for magic loop circular techniques, and it turns out we don't have any circulars in 2.25, so can't start that. So I started balling up another skein to take with me but I just kinda hit a wall on it, sigh. Well, just one day in the office without something to do in the meeting is fine!

Also took a look at humbundle, and they have a manga bundle with all of Shaman King! :D :D :D So I got that, and I've been (re-)reading it this evening. I have forgotten a LOT, I don't even remember the arc I'm up to at all, but I'm also pretty sure I read some stuff that hasn't happened yet??? So yeah I dunno. Anyway, still super fun! :D Also another couple of series came with it, but I know nothing about them so I'm not sure if they'll be fun or not yet. I will find out later!

Monday

Not a whole lot today. Work was work, nothing huge there. Did mend two things, including making a patch (it's even a haphazardly quilted patch! Because made out of shitty fabric, but hey...)

Did play some pokemon, but didn't find anything cool, alas! I DID work on my code thing a bit more, though, and I don't think I'll actually need a database, which is good. I WILL need a preprocessing script, but I worked on that a bit and got over the first big data-processing hurdle. (I forgot to use JSON.Parse, which is uh. A very big stupid on my part.)

Anyway, not going into the office tomorrow because doctor appointment, but I still need to get sleeps! >: Go to bed, self! Hopefully I'll sleep better than last night...

Saturday Night's Alright For Writing

I bought a couple of things from a small gunpla shop and the order confirmation included a link to their discord server. I've been in gunpla/gundam discords before and ran screaming, but I joined anyway and so far it is very chill, they love Providence and Daggers, and I horrified them with my backlog.

Sentai Filmworks Spring Anime Sale, til the 20th iirc. I think I'm good for the moment and need to work on my backlog more. (I mean, I am, but-)

Apparently Hakuouki SSL is getting an English release, which is exciting. I don't think it has an exact date, though, so I'm just going to have to keep it in the back of my mind for later in the year.

I actually wrote and posted a drabble. It's not much, but it's something. Worked a bit on zine stuff. Maybe I can do a bit more later.

Also worked on cleaning in the dining room. I think getting rid of a few more plants will help out A Lot. I'm also going to take a bucket of sand and a bunch of incense out to the garage to burn while working out there. If it ever warms up, I mean, which it hasn't.

I can't believe I have to work tomorrow uuuuuuugh

On the plus side, I did finally go and get easter eggs! :D Mama was right, the shop isn't as good this year :( But I was able to get enough to take to work and share, and that's the most important thing! I can go to the supermarket on the monday for markdowns, for myself >D

Worked on the log project again! Didn't get anywhere much - turns out I'll have to edit some shit before I can pour it into the templating engine, which is extremely frustrating and honestly means I might write my own grab-from-servers script because I might as well do that and store it all in a database, if I'm going to have to be converting large swathes of data anyway. Which is extremely stupid, but what can you do! :|

Might look into doing a NOSQL DB, actually, everything's JSON objects anyway, and IIRC that'd make it more robust in case of API changes that return new fields (and less likely to lose data, which may or may not end up being important in the future). Will have to do some research!

But not now. Now is for bed because work tomorrow uuuuugh. At least it's only a four day week!
