behold the epic rant

« Weißt du, was ich manchmal denke? Es müsste immer Musik da sein. Bei allem, was du machst. Und wenn's so richtig scheiße ist, dann ist wenigstens noch die Musik da. Und an der Stelle, wo es am allerschönsten ist, da müsste die Platte springen, und du hörst immer diesen einen Moment. »

Absolute Giganten

I was looking through the school-books that I'm going to sell to younger students this year and I found a German book we had to read two summers ago and on the first page there was this quote. It just wouldn't get out of my mind, so I decided to share it with you guys. :D Basically it says this:

Do you know what I sometimes think? There must always be music. In everything you do. And when/if it's really such a shit, then at least the music is still there. And at the point where it's most beautiful, then the record must jump there and you always hear this one moment.

Okay, I fail at translating German. It makes much more sense in German than in English, I swear. But at least you guys got the point, right? :D;

So... one of the first things I did when I was finished with my exams was to catch up on Gossip Girl. I missed half of the season and I wanted to know what happened while I wasn't watching. And I am not happy the least.

I have to admit, it started out as a good season. Chuck and Blair were finally an official couple, so we were bound to have some CB fanservice. Georgina was back and I was a big fan of the rivalry between Blair and Georgina. I was scared that Hilary Duff was going to be a regular character on the show, but fortunately her character had to leave New York and should never come back.

Then, this season had all my favourite pairings in it. Chuck/Blair, Rufus/Lily, Dan/Vanessa and also Nate/Serena, although I also liked Carter/Serena. Also the themes were okay - Serena trying to meet her disappearing father, Chuck finally finding his happiness along with his long lost mother that he thought was dead, Dorota being awesome and funny as always, the Non-Judging Breakfast Club being there for each other - it was all good stuff. So good that it made me forgive a couple of episodes of pure randomness in this season, such as Dan/Georgina, Dan/Olivia (alas, Hilary Duff) and Trip/Serena.

But then it all ended at the end of the season. I probably should have seen it coming. I mean, we got our happy ending last season, so it was obvious we weren't getting another one this season, but I didn't expect this finale to be that bad.

I said this season had all my favourite pairings in it. Well, guess what? NONE OF THEM SURVIVED.

First of all, Chuck and Blair broke up. CHUCK AND BLAIR. I swear the writers must have been high or something. I mean, half of the people who watch Gossip Girl do it because they want to see CB. Sure, we got to see them together for the most part of the season (although sometimes I felt like they weren't a couple at all, but that's just me) and the episode where they were fighting over a photo was really funny. Not to mention the scene in the hospital - that, too, was made of pure win. Maybe I was expecting something more from the show - and in that case then it's nobody's fault but mine if I'm not satisfied with what the writers came up with. But seriously, they made CHUCK and BLAIR freakin' break up. After two whole seasons and 43 episodes of angst, romance, fluff and just pure epicness - you just can't make them break up. You know you're just going to make everyone unhappy. Why? Why did the writers do it? Is it some twisted way to make the audience watch season 4, so they know what happens between Chuck and Blair after they broke up? And even if they did get back together in season 4, I'd just feel like the writers were just screwing with me or the CB shippers in general.

At some point I even thought they were going back together in the season finale, but towards the end of the episode Blair changed her mind and left Chuck. Why? Because he had freakin' slept with Jenny. JENNY HUMPHREY. Seriously? Jenny, of all people? This isn't like Chuck. He was heart-broken and everything, alright, but he just... wouldn't do it, especially with Jenny.

This reminds me, another thing I didn't like about this season - Jenny. When did she become such a bitch? Becoming a drug dealer all of a sudden and then trying to steal Nate away from Serena? Honestly, I liked her better in season 1. She wasn't such a pain in season 2, either. Dunno why the writers suddenly decided to screw up her character as well. Because of her Nate and Serena nearly broke up (well, they broke up anyway) and she was the ultimate reason why Blair and Chuck didn't get back together. Gawd, she caused so much trouble. She was the source of all evil in this season.

What else... oh, yeah. Lack of Serena/Blair (and Chuck/Nate as well) moments. Aren't they supposed to be best friends? The only Serena/Blair moments I got were those from the episode where they fought and then nothing. Same thing goes for Chuck and Nate, who had even less moments than Serena and Blair. I guess they were all caught up in their relationships they forgot about their BFFs. Although we did get some Non-Judging Breakfast Club moments, which kind of made up for the lack of Serena/Blair and Chuck/Nate. But still. Serena didn't neglect Blair when she was with Dan in season 1, not even in season 2, for that matter, so why would be it be different now that she is (was?) with Nate? It doesn't make any sense.

One thing I enjoyed the most about this season, believe it or not, was the Jack/Blair fanservice. Which is also partly the reason why Chuck and Blair broke up in the first place, but Jack didn't do anything bad in the end, it was all Chuck's idea. Anyway, I was really happy when they finally kissed and I kinda wish there would have been more Jack/Blair scenes, because now I want to vid them like crazy. This doesn't mean I don't like Chuck/Blair anymore, though.

Also, I wish there would have been more Dan/Blair scenes as well. Last season they were becoming pretty close (as close as Dan and Blair can be, anyway) and I kinda wished I'd see the two of them together more, y'know, since they go to the SAME freakin' university and all. Instead, all I got was the headband scene at the beginning of the season and that tiny bit of fanservice a few episodes before the finale. You know, that scene where Blair is watching Chuck pick up on some girl at Dorota's wedding and then Dan comes up to her and says (exact words), 'You deserve someone better than him.' I practically said out loud, 'YEAH, LIKE YOU!' and I was half-expecting Blair to make a sarcastic comment among that line, but she didn't. Instead, she took his hand and they cheered with Blair's mom and Cyrus (Blair's mom's new husband), like a happy family. THAT COULD HAVE BEEN THE START OF DAN/BLAIR. I swear, the writers need to get them together, at least once.

Also, the finale really disappointed me. Georgina has come back and now she's pregnant? And she says it's Dan's baby? Also, Chuck being shot in an alley while being robbed? I fear the writers will go completely mad and make him die, but I hope that's just a bad feeling I have. He's one of the main characters. He can't die, right? Right?

EDIT: Okay, I just watched a couple of videos of Blake, Leighton and Ed filming season 4, so I guess Chuck is not leaving the show anytime soon. I feel relieved. :D

Whew, that certainly was long, but it needed to be done.
