a mini-trip to edinburgh

Yesterday was a really nice day. ♥

I went to Edinburgh to apply for my National Insurance number. Andrew came with me, because he didn't want me to go alone (also, I had never been to that side of Edinburgh before). We got up at 7am and took the train from Glaneagles, then changed at Stirling. I don't think I've ever mentioned this, but I love taking the train in Scotland. You come across so many stations and so many little cities/towns that I didn't even know existed. I also enjoy reading the towns' Gaelic names. which is... not nerdy at all really Also, it helps me get a good feeling of where everything is. It's like I'm mapping the country in my head. I love it. ♥

Anyway, we got into Waverly station and the Jobcentre Plus was in Princes Street, so it was very close. My appointment for the NINO lasted 15-20 minutes and I had to answer very standard questions. Hopefully I will receive my NINO next week or so.

Then Andrew and I had breakfast in a cafe and just went around Princes Mall. And Andrew found a shop called Anime Republic. So of course we have to go in! They had the cutest merchandise: various nendoroids, wallets, bags, special Totoro bags, some manga, postcards, cosplay costumes, pillows, shirts, keychains, Pokemon and Yuugiou cards, some Japanese imported food... it was quite a small shop, but it was fun browsing nonetheless. I've never bought anime merchandise in my whole life, so it was fun to see it and touch it. Most of the merchandise they had featured mostly Naruto, One Piece and Bleach, plus some Vocaloid and a bit of Death Note. I wish they'd had more CLAMP manga or less-known manga, but I guess they go with what's popular at the moment.

So Andrew and I bought stuff! Andrew bought the first volume of Durarara!! (the second series) and a packet of strawberry Pocky; as for me, I bought some chocolate Pocky and a Madoka Magica t-shirt with Kyubey on it, which is supposed to say, "I will make your wish come true", but it actually says, "I will mane your wtsh come true". Andrew thought I would be really gutted when I noticed it (I didn't notice in the shop, and Andrew noticed when we came back home), but actually... it just makes me laugh! XD I'm nonetheless happy with my purchase, 1) because I needed a t-shirt; and 2) because it's Madoka Magica! Also, it makes the t-shirt a bit more special, imo - I have one of the few with the spelling mistakes in it! :D It's unique!

Here's a pic of my t-shirt (and of me! First time I upload a picture of me on journal): my shirt; me wearing the shirt

There were some other things that I liked in the shop, but decided to go with the t-shirt. When I have a job, I'm definitely buying a Keyblade keychain.

We then walked around a little bit and enjoyed the sights while there were buses and taxis going by. Then we got on the train and I must say, it was one of the most peaceful train rides I've ever had. It was very quiet and I just stared outside the window the whole time, while Andrew read his manga.

Later, at home, I discovered that I don't like Pocky. XD Too sweet and sugary for my taste.

So yes, yesterday was a very nice and productive day. :)

Oh, and here's another tale of fail on my university's part. As you know, I've been waiting for a reply from the Committee to know if I could retake the exams in December and get my Diploma in Legal Practice. My advisor said I would hear back on Semptember 5. I didn't hear back from anyone. I sent an email to my advisor, asking if maybe she had heard something. A week passed and she didn't reply. So I emailed the secretary of the law school, because I just couldn't stand to be kept in the dark like that. She replied and said that they had sent me a letter with the decision of the Committee to my home address. In Italy.

Now. I know that the permanent address they have in their database is my home address in Italy. Fair enough; when I first enrolled at the university, that was my permanent address. I can understand that you would send the letter by post to my home address. The only thing I ask is that you send me an electronic copy of the letter by email. I mean, seriously. You know that it will take 20 days for the the letter to arrive to my home address in Italy. You know that I'm waiting to know the decision of the Committee in order to start studying and program my schedule. You know that this letter is very important. You know all these things and yet you don't think of sending me an electronic copy via email? What if the letter gets lost and never arrives home? Why would you leave me in the dark about the Committee's decision for so long? I mean, it's not that hard. You have my Dundee uni email address. Just send me an electronic copy, so you can make sure that I received it and knew about the Committee's decision. You can't just leave me in the dark like that. I had to email the secretary in order to get the electronic copy and finally know what I was supposed to do. I mean... ugh.

Also, they wrote my name wrong in the letter. I've always been patient with people mispronouncing my name, but how hard can it be to copy my name right from a database?

In other news, my web design course starts tomorrow evening and I'm very excited for it. Also, I know I sound like a broken record, but Waterstones should contact me any day now for that job. Hopefully they'll send me an email soon.

I also love seeing the Gaelic names for places, and trying to pronounce them in my head XD I'm terrible at remembering them though. I can't even remember my own town's gaelic name. fail

I love taking the train through Scotland, there's something about it that makes me feel at home that doesn't happen anywhere else. I to ok the train from Glasgow to Aberdeen (three hours) and it was beautiful. I hope to do that again sometime.

The shop sounds amazing! What is pocky? Is the rejuvenitive sweet from Pokemon, right?

): I'm really sorry your school put you through that. They can make us suffer so much, and it's like most of them don't even care.

You're really cute and that t-shirt is adorable too.

A KEYBLADE KEYCHAIN o.o

They never have anything that exciting in the anime shops in Manchester! (Mind you, it IS Manchester ;) And not to say they don't have cool stuff, because they do, but nothing as cool as Keyblade Keychain)

What you said about Gaelic place names and mapping stuff in your head - I totally do that, too. I used to live in North Wales, and I loved seeing all the Welsh stuff as well as English (some of it even stuck!) I also like mapping stuff because then I know where I'm going next time. Also you can kind of go, "Oh yeah X place is 3 train stops on from Y!" and it makes sense in your brain.

Also it's cool that they have the place names in Scots Gaelic, too. I didn't know they did that.

Isn't it just?! o.o I kind of like all the Keyblades? It's been a while since I played KH or checked out any of the weapons, hence the copout of an answer BUT. I kind of have a legit reason - I really like keys. No...that's not washing even with me, that is a lame answer. I will have to have a look on the KH Wiki.

Oooh, good luck with learning Gaelic! :)

*high fives*

Oh wow, that bracelet sounds cool! I have some spoons that are key-shaped (it makes sense when you see them) - I've taken some photos of them to post, actually, as I refer to them as my Kingdom Hearts spoons :D and I thought it was about time I showed them off.
