Writer's Block: Supersoldiers vs. The Others
Hello, hello! My first two exams are over, which means there's only one more to go! It's going to be about criminal law, so I'm not too worried about it - it's the module I enjoyed the most this semester, so things stuck to my memory more. :D I also promised I was going to write a life update entry, but I just realised that I... really don't have anything exciting to say. XD
I'm on Easter Holidays, as you already know and my lectures officially finished a month ago. Now I only need to study for my last exam (which is on the 15th of May) and then I'm basically on summer holidays! Wow, time really does fly... I might be going back to Italy at the beginning of June. Right now I'm staying at Andrew's (my boyfriend) house - his family is really nice and they don't mind having me around for a month or two. I'm really, really lucky to have met Andrew... if it weren't for him, I would probably be spending these two months alone in my campus room while waiting for my exams to be over.
Anyway. Seeing as I don't have much to say, I'll do another one of those Writer's Block. Also, as soon as I read this one, I knew I had to write an answer for it.

It makes me really, really sad to say this... but unfortunately my answer is: Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl was the first TV show that really got me hooked to the whole TV shows business; it was also the first TV show that I started watching completely in English, from the very first episode; it's the first TV show that encouraged me to keep up with the American release dates of the episodes, rather than wait for it to be dubbed (I also hate the Italian dub with a passion); and, last but not least, it is thanks to Gossip Girl that I found possibly two of my most loved characters ever, as well as one of my most treasured OTPs: Chuck and Blair.
That said, I have to say that season 5 really hasn't been as good as I hoped it would be. After the season 4 finale, which was very touching and overall amazing, I was expecting... maybe something more from this season. After season 3 and 4, which went from 'okay' to 'blah', depending on which episode you watched, I hoped this season would go back to the 'splendour', let's say, that Gossip Girl once was in seasons 1 and 2. Those are the two best seasons, in my opinion. Gossip Girl had a great start - the characters were interesting and likeable, although each and everyone of them had their issues, and it was nice to see them interact with each other, resolve their issues, seeing them 'grow up' somehow - it was fun and offered some thoughtful insights on characters that would have otherwise been spoiled children in the bodies of teenagers. I think the show was really fresh and different from all the others teenage dramas that we see in television today.
But season 5? To tell you the truth, I'm seriously thinking of deleting it from my mind once it's over - pretend it never even existed. While I did enjoy the 100th episode (kudos to the GG cast and crew for such an accomplishment!), I just think the writers are screwing up the show I once adored, along with my favourite characters and couples.
Dan/Blair, for example. They are finally together, and while a small part of me is happy that they're a couple (I have shipped them for a very long time), a big part of me just wants them to break up as soon as possible. Why? For a series of reasons: they didn't get together the way I wanted them to (instead we get a Dan acting even worse than Chuck Bass - and that's saying something - screwing up with people just to get Blair - the old Dan Humphrey, the Dan Humphrey I ship with Blair, is nothing like that); the writers just keep ripping off lovely and amazing Chuck/Blair moments and rewriting them for Dan/Blair, hoping the fans will not notice (but of course, we do, and we do get offended and disgusted by this), just to shove this pairing down our throats, make them canon, and make them appear like they have chemistry (but I'm sorry to say, they don't. I am a Dan/Blair fan, and it hurts me to say this, but they just don't have that kind of chemistry); and lastly, because to get them together, they are ruining Blair's character. Blair said various times in this season that she still loves Chuck (she even said that she will always love him), she said it a couple of episodes before she got together with Dan. She also said she needed some time alone. But then, she threw herself right into Dan's arms. And then, when she and Dan got together, she told Chuck she didn't love him anymore - even though she had been saying the exact opposite the whole season, even a couple of episodes before she got with Dan! I'm sorry, this is not how it works. And this is definitely not how Blair's character would behave in such a situation.
Ever since the writers got her with Dan, Blair's character hardly seems to make any sense. She's not herself anymore. For starters, she's totally ignoring Chuck. This is totally wrong, of course. They were best friends before they got together - and even after they broke up, they have always been there for each other. That's what the Non-Judging Breakfast Club is for. But of course, the writers seem to have forgotten about it all. Blair and Serena hardly interact with each other - and they're best friends. It just doesn't make sense. The writers just threw the first seasons of Gossip Girl out the window. I'm sorry, but you just can't do that. Also, the whole going from Chuck to Louise, then back to Chuck, then back to Louise, then breaking up with Louise and throwing herself into Dan's arms, even though she clearly wanted to be with Chuck just two episodes ago - it really, really hurts me to say this, but the writers are really making Blair look like she's a slut, jumping from man to man as she pleases, without making even one bit of sense. Blair Waldorf is not like that - she is not a slut, and ever since she was introduced in the show, it's always been clear that Blair is the type of character that really goes for what she wants - she's confident, she knows what she wants and she often doesn't need a man to make her feel good or accomplished about herself. That's the Blair I loved, that's the character that won a place into my heart, with her bitchiness and her wit and her confidence - not this... highly different character that pretends to be Blair. Writers, please, get it together.
On a side note... I didn't feel the least sorry for Blair when Louise started acting like an asshole to her. To be fair, she kind of deserved it. She confessed her love to Chuck various times when they were together - even at her wedding with Louise - it's only obvious that he would reach a point where he just couldn't take it anymore. I also have a problem with the fact that she run to Dan, of all people. Again, what about the Non-Judging Breakfast Club? You know, her best friends since she was little and that know her better than anyone else? But nope, she just rushes to Dan. See what I said about trying to shove this pairing down our throats?
Also, relating to the last episode. I seriously don't get what's with the writers and this whole 'Blair being shadowed by the man in the relationship' bullshit. Because that's what it is - bullshit. I almost never use curse words on my journal, but this just irritates me so much, I can't help it. She is a powerful woman, she knows how to get in the spotlight, she knows how to get what she wants, just like Chuck. They're both powerful and charismatic characters - one doesn't have to overshadow the other. If there's one thing Blair knows how to do is not being overshadowed. Plus, she was NEVER overshadowed when she was in a relationship with Louise. For God's sake, she was going to be a princess - she was featured on newspapers, Gossip Girl's site - she was freaking famous! You can't be overshadowed when you're marrying a freaking prince!! Hello, writers?! Anybody homeeeeeee?! Can we please knock some sense back into Blairand possibly yourselves?
Sorry about that, guys. XD; I just... really needed to get that out of my system. Anyway, I shall post more soon! :D
